Yahoo! has officially announced that its publisher network service (YPN) will be closed on April 30, 2010, and they will deliver final publisher payments for the month ending April 30, 2010 to publishers no later than May 31, 2010.

For the opportunity to continue earning revenue, we suggest using Chitika, a leading advertising network that syndicates yahoo! Content Match and Sponsored Search ads. Chitika has set up a special process for YPNO beta publishers to participate in its platform.
To date, there are many assumptions about why YPN finally dead on the beta version, in my opinion this is a overall situation strategy.
You all know yahoo is merging with MicroSoft shortly for both search and contextual ad serving right?
Also MicroSoft is working on it’s version of Adwords and Adsense via Adcenter and Pubcenter. YPN inventory will most likely just be merged into MicroSoft Pubcenter as the 6 platforms are merged

This was a totally expected event.
PPC marketing is a conflicting business model, NO ONE can compete with Adsense is tough for two reasons:
1) publishers are best served when there are many advertisers.
2) Advertisers are best served when there are many websites in the network.
This “network effect” maximizes the quality of match between ad and page, increases the probability of a click and ultimate conversion.
My personal experience with YPN: the same poorly matched ads kept appearing over and over, clicks were few, and eCPM was terrible.
All in all, Yahoo! has just gave up and handed off publisher network within expected. |
